Work is the key to economic independence. In addition to creating jobs, we enable individuals to acquire the training needed for jobs in their local community. We assess needs locally and implement measures to offer relevant vocational training.
If you have a background from gathering firewood in Ethiopia or planting tomatoes in Myanmar, finding a job in the new businesses that are emerging will not be easy. Locally relevant training and skills development is one of the mainstays of our activities. Our objective is to help foster qualified human resources. This enables us to offer relevant training that can help people find work. In this way, we secure recruitment for local businesses and help individuals achieve economic independence through paid work.
Tailoring projects to requirements
Needs can vary greatly. In rural areas without access to schools or where access to schools is inadequate and living conditions are difficult, people need to acquire basic life skills. In areas where many people have gone to school it may be a question of improving English skills to enable access to new job markets. We also see that new businesses, not least tourism, are in great need of human resources. In such situations, the key to success is relevant vocational training, both for individuals wishing to qualify for a job and for entrepreneurs who wish to hire local staff.
Training and education
To address these challenges Partnership for Change has, jointly with local partners, set up programmes to provide relevant vocational training to women and youth. We support projects giving these target groups access to formal education. In addition, we organise our own courses and support others who organise short courses and programmes that help participants qualify for jobs in their local community in industries such as tourism and the textile and service sectors.
