Our partner Tebita Ambulance has started a new business that produces first aid kits. Three women are employed in the company where they now also sew face masks – a highly sought-after product during the ongoing corona epidemic. PfC has contributed with financing of the start-up company.
Prior to the global corona outbreak, PfC and Tebita Ambulance had agreed to start production of first aid kits intended for use in cars. With financial support from PfC, sewing machines and raw materials were purchased, and three women were hired to produce the equipment.
First aid kits for car use are not common in Ethiopia – despite the fact that the country has a serious situation when it comes to traffic injuries and deaths. Simple first aid equipment will in many cases help to improve the outcome for those who are exposed to accidents. Tebita now negotiates with larger private companies with a view to delivering first aid kits to their customers.
When the corona pandemic was a fact, Tebita, which also trains ambulance personnel and private ambulance operations, had the necessary equipment to produce face masks – a product that is in great shortage these days. Now the production of face masks is in full swing. Initially, masks are produced for use by employees in Tebita’s ambulance business and for free distribution to Addis Ababa’s poor neighborhoods. In addition, face masks are produced for commercial sale.
