PfC’s main goal is financial independence for women. PfC has for several years collaborated with Mester Grønn (Norwegian flower chain) on the production and delivery of baskets from Ethiopia. New baskets can now be found in Mester Grønn’s stores in Norway. The women who produce them, the vast majority single mothers, now have a good source of income and can take care of themselves and their children thanks to this project.
The basket project has been named LEWUT, which is Amharic and means change. Mester Grønn has designed and ordered the baskets to be sold in their shops in Norway, and PfC has engaged poor women in the town of Bahir Dar to produce the baskets.
PfC has collaborated with Mester Grønn on production of baskets since 2018, and we are proud and happy for this long-term collaboration. Mester Grønn has expertise in baskets and flowers, and PfC has local knowledge and can realize the order on the grassroot. With this, we ensure women decent work, and by buying the baskets, you literally contribute to women being able to braid themselves out of poverty.

Historie from one of the basket makers:
My parents were farmers, very poor farmers. We were seven in the family and we grew up very poor.
I am 27 years old now and I am a mother of two children. My oldest child is 11. I was married off as a child when I was only 15 and had my first baby at 16. I did not know any other life except marriage and children.
However, I always used to make baskets and sell them in the local market for very cheap price to be able to feed my family.
This basket project changed my life. Even my husband was encouraging me to work as I was able to change the whole family.
