PfC started projects in Ethiopia in 2014. From 2020, we will focus on our project portfolio in the African country. – We have considered that we get the best results by directing our entire efforts towards one focus country, says Ms. Anne-Karin Nygård, director of PfC.
Day care for toddlers is the key to ensure that women have the same access to the formal workforce as men.
PfC has, in collaboration with our partners, projects in Ethiopia that aim for women to become financially independent. The projects range from securing schooling and education for girls to vocational training and entrepreneurship. In addition, we work with the establishment of day care for toddlers in the African country.
– The Day Care project is important to ensure women’s participation in the formal workforce. Many women today are unable to work or complete their education due to a lack of solutions for their children, says Ms. Nygård.

Focus
PfC is a small Norwegian non-profit organization established in 2012. Since then, PfC has had operations in South Sudan, Norway, the USA and Myanmar. From 2014, efforts were concentrated on Myanmar and Ethiopia. Now the business is further concentrated, and all efforts are directed towards Ethiopia.
– Since 2012, we have had a number of projects in Myanmar. In recent years, we have particularly focused on supporting entrepreneurs, education and development of civil society, says Nygård.
By far the largest project for PfC in Myanmar has been the contribution to the establishment and development of a vocational school linked to the hotel sector in Nyaung Shwe. The school is now run by the authorities in Myanmar. In addition, we have contributed to building civil society through the establishment and development of the organization Inle Speaks. This organization now has its own funding.
– These are good examples of how PfC’s model for sustainable development works. We contribute to development, but when the projects can continue on their own, we pull out in a controlled manner, says Ms. Nygård.
Withdraws
In order to ensure the best possible development for the resources available to the organization, PfC’s board decided to wind up operations in Myanmar when the future of ongoing projects was secured.
– As a small organization, it has been crucial for us to focus. Therefore, from 2020, we will only focus on contributing to women’s economic independence in Ethiopia. At the same time, we are proud to leave behind projects in Myanmar that are of great importance to participants and the local communities. We are proud of what we have achieved, says Anne-Karin Nygård.
