Support – solar cell-energy project

29. June 2022

PfC and Green Scene Energy have signed an agreement to support a pilot project that will provide training and work for 75 sales agents. The goal is to make good solar cell products available to thousands of people in rural areas who otherwise would not have had access to electricity.

Over 70 million Ethiopians (63% of the country’s 110 million people) do not have access to electricity.

The government’s national electrification program plans to connect 8 million households to the national electricity grid by 2025. This leaves 6 million households off grid, without affordable energy supply.

The consumer culture in Ethiopia is typified by tiny disposable income, distrust of unfamiliar technology and heavy dependence on kerosene lamps, wax candles and dry-cell battery torches. All of these are expensive, inefficient, hazardous to health and / or harmful to the environment.

Green Scene Energy uses the existing telecommunications infrastructure to provide affordable solar energy to a large number of low-income households and small businesses. 90% of the country has online coverage of at least 2G.

General manager of Green Scene Energy is Rekik Bekele, with whom PfC has collaborated for several years through “Run Africa”.

PfC has great faith in this new initiative in the renewable energy sector. As a partner, we want to support companies such as Green Scene Energy through the challenges a small, start-up company faces and lift them to a level where they can attract larger investors.
